Our Journey
Since 1973, our mission has been to inspire surf culture and make the best boardshorts and bikinis. Billabong envisions a world where everyone Knows The Feeling. And in order to do that, we need to protect the places we love the most by reducing our impact. We aren’t perfect, but we know the choices we make today matter for tomorrow... and that is somewhere we can all begin. See more about our journey below.
It’s In Our DNA
The ocean is the heart and soul of everything we do. It’s the place we all call home, the place that makes us who we are. The start of our commitment was simple... all products that touch the ocean must be ecological. And that was just the beginning…
100% of all products that touch the ocean are made from recycled fabrics. Swim, Rashguards, Boardshorts, and Neoprene are all more Eco.
SWIM
Every bikini and one piece we create are in recycled yarns, from soft printed peach stretch to innovative textures, every fabric we make consists of a minimum of 78% up to 92% recycled polyester or nylon.
NEOPRENE
The exterior is 100% recycled Superflex jersey bonded to our innovative foam made from a minimum of 30% recycled rubber. All adhesives used in our neoprene are 100% water based.
SUN PROTECTION
Rashguards & bodysuits provide physical protection from the sun up to UPF 50 in a minimum of 78% up to 92% recycled yarns.
BOARDSHORTS
From lush tropical prints to soft overdyes, every boardshort we create is made from recycled yarns that come from both pre and post-consumer plastics, helping to keep waste out of landfills.
Billabong’s commitment to the environment continues with the expansion of our Recycler program into our Adventure Division Snow collection, encompassing Outerwear, Snow Layers, and Snow Accessories. 100% of our Snow range are now made from recycled PET, saving millions of plastic bottles from landfills and our seas.

Easy on the body. Introducing silky soft wovens crafted from 100% organic, sustainable and responsibly harvested cotton— taking us one step closer to happier trees and cleaner seas...
High design, low impact: Our Eco swim made from recycled yarns fits like a glove and is ready for the sea. Water is at the center of so much that we do, and this Eco swim collection marks a wave of change we are committed to being a part of.
Doing more with less — new fibers, that is. Our Eco tees and fleece feature a blend of recycled fiber scraps gathered from the factory floor that would otherwise end up in landfills.
We want the pieces we wear in the sea to reflect the respect we have for it, and we felt it was only right that we take a step towards cleaning up our neoprene act. Introducing our recycled neoprene line, a love letter to salt-drenched days and to the only ocean we have, who needs us as much as we need her.

Launched Carvico Vita Recycled Nylon in our Surf Capsule Swim.
2019
RECYCLER BOARDSHORT
A world first: all of our boardshorts are now made from recycled PET and sustainable materials.

PACK IT UP!
100% of our packaging is now recyclable and made from recycled materials.

HELLO! TOMORROW
Launched our first full Eco swim and apparel collection.

RECYCLER WETSUITS
Another world first: all of our wetsuits are now made from recycled PET liners and jerseys, water-based glues and foam from upcycled car tires.

OUR FIRST ECO SWIM GROUPS
Launched our first swim groups, Shady Sands and Slow Daze swim made of recycled materials.

INTRODUCING CICLO TECHNOLOGY
Closing the loop to help reduce plastic pollution in our oceans and landfills in our Furnace Natural Wetsuit.

RECYCLER UV SURF
All of our UV Surf and submersible products are now made from recycled PET.

TEXTURED ECO SWIM
Launched our first textured Eco swim material, the Sand dunes rib.
2021
ECO COLLABS
Launched our very first Global Eco collaboration with The Salty Blonde. Followed by our second Salty Blonde collection and two Eco collaborations with Wrangler.

RECYCLER A/DIV SNOW
All of our A/DIV snow products are now made from recycled PET and are fully recyclable.

Wrapped With Care
All of our packaging is completely recycled and recyclable. We went from less than 10% recycled polybags in 2017 to 100% recycled polybags in less than 3 years. We’ve put thought into each piece, from our recycled hangtags, recycled InStore signage and even to our wetsuit hangers made from marine algae.

Did you know our bikini liners are compostable?? Toss them in with your compost before wearing your new swim. Happy Composting!

HEADQUARTERS
At our offices we’ve made shifts towards a more sustainable future. On our campus we offer polybag recycling, compost bins, refillable water stations, electric car charging stations and said sayonara to plastic utensils. We know that it starts from the people within which is why we will continue our commitment to education through The School of Understanding to educate our team members in sustainability.
